Dolphins & Porpoises
Dolphins are among the most exciting animals to spot on our tours. Bottlenose dolphins and common dolphins are regular visitors, often playing in the boat’s wake or leaping alongside us. Harbour porpoises are shyer but can be seen surfacing quietly in calm conditions.
Seals
Atlantic grey seals are a familiar sight on rocky outcrops and sandy beaches around Killala Bay. They often pop their curious heads above the water to watch passing boats — a highlight for children and adults alike.
Seabirds
This stretch of coastline is a birdwatcher’s paradise. Depending on the season, you may see:
- Gannets diving spectacularly into the sea
- Puffins and guillemots nesting on cliffs
- Terns and cormorants fishing in shallow waters
Bring binoculars if you can — you’ll be amazed at the bird activity.
Occasional Visitors
While less common, our guests sometimes spot minke whales, basking sharks, or even sunfish during summer. These surprise encounters are always a thrill.
